Year 1

Welcome to the
Butterflies and Ladybirds

Year 1 Teachers - Mrs Harrington, Mrs Martin, Mrs Hales

Support Staff - Miss Wood, Mrs Khan

Learning at Home
We expect all children to read their reading book at home at least three times a week to support their learning.

Each year group will also have six 'Teach Your Parent' activities per term linked to their wider curriculum learning. These are to enrich your child's wider knowledge and support you with further learning at home and are optional to complete.

In addition to this we will also send home links to your child's Read Write Inc phonics sessions. This will support you in helping your child to practice their reading skills at home. How to read with your child.

We’ve had a busy but fantastic first term in Year 1! We’ve settled into our new routines well and have adapted brilliantly to using iPads in our learning. We loved completing our Rainbow Challenges independently—it’s helped us become confident and creative learners. One of the highlights of the term was our trip to the Regent Theatre to watch Nativity! —it was amazing! We also performed our very own nativity play, Whoops-a-Daisy Angel, and we were so proud of ourselves. In DT, we got creative and made our own moving parts cards. During our learning we looked at how things move and, independently as part of our rainbow challenges, made different parts on pictures move. We then used what we had learnt to create our moving Christmas cards. In Science, we’ve been learning all about our bodies and even took part in an exciting senses workshop with Taste Buddies. It was so much fun exploring how our senses work! We’ve been working hard in phonics to improve our independent reading skills and have been learning more about shapes in Maths. It’s been a term full of learning and new experiences, and we can’t wait to see what next term brings!
