Science Trip to St. Margaret Ward High School
The Swans visited St. Margaret Ward Academy to take part in a high school transition session. They used the school laboratory and conducted an experiment on acid and alkaline. We really enjoyed meeting some of the staff and having the experience of being in a high school.
Library Visit
In June, Year 5 visited City Central Library in Hanley. We met Chris the librarian and he read us a story which we really enjoyed. We then had the chance to tour the children’s section of the library and choose a book to read. The library is free to use and there are no late fees for children, so we encourage everyone to get a library card and enjoy reading!
Swimming
Every Friday, Year 5 have been swimming at the Jubilee Swimming Pool. They have come so much during their swimming lessons, and we are so proud of the resilience and positive attitude they have shown throughout.
Watch Me Learn
We loved having parents in to take part in our science lesson on separating materials and thank all those parents who were able to join us. This has been part of a wider unit on the properties of materials and reversible and irreversible change. As well as separating materials through sieving and magnetism, the children have investigated dissolving, absorption and filtering. They have developed scientific skills as well as independent decision making.
Sports Day
Despite the initial bad weather, Year 5 sports day was a huge success. The children enjoyed taking part in the egg and spoon race, the potato race, hurdles, sack and javelin. They worked independently, showing determination, focus, and a positive attitude as they completed each race. The children were encouraged to believe in themselves, keep going even when things didn’t go as planned, and celebrate their personal achievements. It was a great opportunity for the children to build confidence and learn the value of resilience through active participation.
