This Summer term has been another exciting chapter for our Year 2 Owls and Robins, filled with exploration, creativity and community spirit!

We began the term with a visit to the brand-new library in Hanley, where the children were inspired to become enthusiastic readers. They enjoyed exploring the shelves, discovering new books and listening to a captivating story read aloud by the librarian. This visit helped spark a love of reading and encouraged the children to see themselves as confident, curious readers.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, we celebrated the importance of well-being through a range of thoughtful activities. The children explored ways to care for their minds and bodies, shared what makes them feel happy and safe and took part in calming mindfulness exercises.

A highlight of the term was a visit from the local fire brigade. The children were thrilled to meet real-life firefighters, sit inside a fire engine and learn all about fire safety and the important role firefighters play in our community. They asked insightful questions and showed great interest in how to stay safe.

We also enjoyed a fantastic Sports Day, where children showcased their athletic skills and teamwork. It was wonderful to see so many families cheering from the sidelines, creating a joyful and supportive atmosphere.

In celebration of Stoke 100, the children designed and created their own clay kilns, learning about local heritage and craftsmanship. They took great pride in painting and decorating their creations, which will now part of a stunning display in the school hall.

It’s been a term full of memorable experiences, hands-on learning and joyful celebration. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, creativity and community spirit shown by our Year 2 children. They have been an absolute pleasure to teach and we know they are all ready to shine in Year 3!
